Production Planner/Material Handler

ENGEL Machinery North America/Trexel has a job opportunity for a Production Planner/Material Handler, for the newly acquired Trexel company in Wilmington, MA. POSITION INFORMATION

The Production Planner / Material Handler plays a critical role in ensuring smooth execution of Trexel’s order fulfillment process by coordinating material planning, inventory management, and shop floor support. This role works cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure materials are available to meet customer demand while maintaining accurate inventory and efficient material flow to assembly.

This is a hands-on position combining planning, coordination, and physical material handling responsibilities in a small, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate materials and components required to fulfill customer orders and production schedules.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering to understand BOMs, product changes, and technical requirements.
  • Work with Purchasing to ensure timely ordering and delivery of materials.
  • Monitor order status, material availability, and production timelines; proactively address shortages or delays.
  • Maintain and update ERP/MRP system data (BOMs, lead times, inventory levels as applicable).

Inventory Management & Control

  • Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation activities.
  • Track incoming and outgoing materials to ensure proper documentation and system updates.
  • Maintain organized storage and material locations to support efficient operations.
  • Assist in identifying excess, obsolete, or slow-moving inventory.

Shipping, Receiving & Material Handling

  • Receive incoming materials; inspect for accuracy and coordinate with Purchasing/Quality on discrepancies.
  • Prepare and stage materials for production and assembly teams.
  • Pick, pack, and ship outgoing orders, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Move materials efficiently between storage, staging, and production areas.
  • Ensure components are available at the point of use for assemblers to minimize downtime.

Cross-Functional Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Serve as a key liaison between Operations, Engineering, and Purchasing.
  • Identify opportunities to improve material flow, planning accuracy, and inventory processes.
  • Support implementation of standard processes aligned with ENGEL/Trexel operational practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (5S principles).

Qualifications (Required)

  • 2–5 years of experience in production planning, materials coordination, inventory control, or warehouse operations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand basic bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Comfortable with both administrative/planning tasks and hands-on material handling.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard office tools.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience in light manufacturing or assembly environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing or inventory control best practices.
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Understanding of supply chain concepts (lead times, safety stock, reorder points).

Work Environment

  • Strong coordination across Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations teams.
  • Combination of office (planning/ERP work) and shop floor/warehouse activities.
  • Requires standing, lifting, and moving materials as part of daily responsibilities.
